Bible Study: Ephesians Chapter Three

Happy New Month fam! Here’s chapter 3 of Ephesians. Please try to take out time to read the scripture itself from the Bible as well. It would really help you understand the bible study. Have an awesome day!

Chapter 3

Taken by Bisola

For this chapter I would say Paul was explaining how he happened to be the special apostle to the gentiles and the greatness of God’s love to us ward (toward us).

Verse 8

To me, though I am the very least of all the saints (God’s consecrated people), this grace (favor, privilege) was granted and graciously entrusted: to proclaim to the Gentiles the unending (boundless, fathomless, incalculable, and exhaustless) riches of Christ [wealth which no human being could have searched out],

Ephesians 3:8 AMPC

Whenever we accept and believe that we are totally incapable of carrying out the task God has entrusted in us He will empower us to do an amazing job. Looking through scripture we see that God calls the unqualified and qualifies them leaving the qualified looking confused. So the next time you feel inadequate, ask for Grace and believe God would supply abundantly.
Verse 11

This is in accordance with the terms of the eternal and timeless purpose which He has realized and carried into effect in [the person of] Christ Jesus our Lord,

Ephesians 3:11 AMPC

To be able to get the confidence that was spoken of yesterday, we need JESUS massively. It’s in Jesus we have boldness, and access with confidence. Boldness and access to the presence of a very holy God. To talk to Him as our father friend and love. We do this by faith in Jesus. Remember it is by grace you are saved through faith. Faith helps us unlock the work of grace!

Verses 14 and 15

For this reason [seeing the greatness of this plan by which you are built together in Christ], I bow my knees before the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, For Whom every family in heaven and on earth is named [that Father from Whom all fatherhood takes its title and derives its name].

Ephesians 3:14‭-‬15 AMPC

The family of God includes all who have believed in God in the past, now and in the future because we all have one father. This our ABBA is the source of all creation, the rightful owner of everything. God promises his Love and power to his family (The CHURCH). If we want to receive his blessings, it’s important that we stay in contact with other believers in the body of Christ. (Some are legs, eyes, ears, assholes-the annoying kind etc., we need each part for a functional body).

Those who isolate themselves from co-believers/God’s family and try to get it alone are cutting themselves off from God’s power.

What Other Group Members Are Saying:

For me I learnt that God releases Grace for what He has called us to do. Paul was often imprisoned like in this chapter because he was preaching that Gentiles are a part of God’s house (verse 1). In verse 7 he said “God has given me the wonderful privilege of telling everyone about this plan of his; and He has given me his power and special ability to do it well”.

Today we still need God’s power and special ability to do that which He has sent us to do.

Verse 17 is my favourite, that Christ will be more and more at home in our hearts living within us as we trust in him, that’s the goal as Christians.
And I just love verse 19; that we might feel and understand as all God’s children should, how long, how wide, how deep and how high his love really is and to experience this love for yourselves.

There’s something that comes with having a personal experience of God beyond the falling under the anointing, beyond what we read in books or what other people share. Paul was praying this way because he had first hand experience of God’s love and I believe that’s why he was so convinced and wrote what shall separate us from the love of Christ?

This is topping my prayer point from today Lord let me understand and experience your love.

Verse 16, the inner strength that gives power to stay through and not grow weary. Dependency on the Holy Spirit ensures we have the power/strength we need to face anything in the course of pursuing purpose.

Verses 17-19, makes me know how much I need to have an understanding of the love of Christ. When you know for a fact that someone loves you, you can go all out for them. It’s this knowing (of how important I am to God, how deep his love for me is), that will help me do my part in order to be filled with all the fullness of God.

Verse 17, we first have to receive Jesus and that’s by having faith in Him before we can have His kind of love. We can then be sunk so deeply in love and be founded i.e. begin to build our relationships and everyday life with this love.

Verses 18-19, in this love we also need power to comprehend this love that goes beyond human understanding. We don’t just read about it but personally experience it ourselves. We may not fully be aware of how God loves us but that evidence is all around us as we go about our daily lives.

Verse 20, God works in us and through us to carry out His purposes. We should never think we are doing all the work for Him alone and just by our strength.

Today’s study for me is an emphasis on our previous studies:
Gentiles are now fellow heirs with the Jews. This implies that we are now partakers of his divine promise in Christ through our acceptance of the good news. Our confidence is not of “self” in as much as we are expected to exhibit confidence, It should be in God. The power of God in us is able to fulfill his purpose and do far above our prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes or dreams (verse 20). So let’s keep calm and allow him.

19 My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength—that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you’ll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God. ‬‬

20-21God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.

The contributions have said it all but I want to lay emphasis on verse 10. God wants to showcase in us His manifold wisdom not only to the world but also to heavenly host. We are living epistle as stated in 2Cor 3:2; the hosts of heaven are waiting to be wowed as Christ is being birthed in us. Indeed they are waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God.

Verses 16-19 this is a prayer for all. The flesh is constantly at war with the spirit and God wants us to come to that point where Christ will be fully expressed in our body and soul and not just our spirit man alone. The point where our natural mind is in tune with God and body yields naturally to God hence the prayer of Paul in verse16. Ephesians 3:18-19 “to be filled to the measure of the fullness of God is to comprehend and know the love of God for us in Christ Jesus” Ephesians 3:3,17, to know this love is via revelation. Not simply being told or even reading it but the Holy Spirit revealing it in our hearts as Christ dwells in our heart through faith. Ephesians 3:16-17, Christ dwelling in our hearts is the constant chewing and meditating on the word of God (since we will all agree that Christ is the word of God). This dwelling is done prayerfully which is why we suppose Paul says “I pray…” twice in these verses, thus the importance of Paul’s prayer. It’s a present continuous prayer. The “manifold wisdom of God…” is only revealed when we walk in this reality.

QUESTION: Knowing nothing can separate me from the love of Christ if I go on committing Adultery, lying stealing, blaspheming etc. Does it still mean God would love me?
