The last time I wrote on how when we look down on ourselves we doubt God. You could check the link if you missed out on that.
I spoke about us believing when people say we aren’t good enough when God thinks and says otherwise because we are yet to fully grasp what God says about us and how much of value we are to God, ‘cause we are also yet to love ourselves. I went on to say that doubting God isn’t only about not believing what He has done for us or not believing He is able to perform a miracle in our lives; it’s also not believing and accepting our inheritance in Christ and how much He values us . . . How much He loves us and what He thinks of us. You can read more of that article here/via this link.

Today, I want us to look at our being called into His kingdom; understanding why we are here. First thing I think we all need to understand is that we were all called to come to Christ, not by our owing doing but by God.

According to Ephesians 1 verse 3-6 (MSG) , ‘How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him. Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved son.’

So, if we were all called we should also believe we are special to God. We should believe that God knows us individually. We should also believe that He who called us also has great plans for us.

Say this to yourself, “I am loved by God and I am called by God.”

So many of us have low self-esteem and unhealthy self images because we don’t believe who we are. Having a healthy self-image is really important. According to Google, Self-Image is the idea one has of one’s abilities, appearance and personality. The best way to correct whatever negative mindset we have about ourselves through knowing who we really are. Once you overcome the past failures and way of living and come to Christ, you have a new identity. You need to build your new identity.
The first step to doing this is knowing who you are in Christ. According to the above passage, we know that:
– God has always had you and I in mind.
– He loves us deeply
– He wants us to enjoy His good gifts
– He chose us; we are special to Him
– We are blessed with spiritual blessings

We also know we have access to insurmountable peace and victory in Him. We have the mind of Christ (Philippians 2:5). We have great potentials because God can accomplish a lot through us (Ephesians 3:20). We know we are ambassadors, we aren’t perfect and when we fall we feel we aren’t good enough, but that’s a lie. We have to get back up and keep going. We can do all things through Christ that strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). In short, we have a lot of wonderful things in Christ.

The second step is believing in it. You need to know how God feels about you and own it! Be confident about it. Hold your head high and walk in that knowing. But then it may be hard. There are negative thoughts that tend to speak against what God says about us. These negative thoughts could all be in your head, what people have said to you or what circumstances bring about.

If you think you’re a nobody, then that’s what you will be.
If you think you’re a failure, then don’t be amazed at your continual patterns of failure.

The Bible makes us know that ‘Greater is He that is in you than He that is in the world.’ (1 John 4:4), when we have God with and in us we need to know we are better off than such nonsense thoughts. We should also surround ourselves with positive words, quotes, people.

Philippians 4: 8-9 (MSG) ‘Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious – the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise. Not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.’

The truth is in the word of God. We need to keep reading and studying the word of God to discover what else He says about us.

The third step is knowing why God chose you. There are a lot of people out there who are yet to discover why they are here. There are people who chase dreams, visions and plans that God doesn’t have in mind for them.
Ephesians 1 verse 11-12 (MSG) ‘It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.’
In the above passage we know God has plans for us and we know these plans are for good and not for evil (Jeremiah 29:11). We would discover why we exist and how to go about it with God.
Next time we would look at Why God Chose us.

Till then have a great day!
Love you all,
Temitope Ogunyinka.
