Release Yourself to Love

Release Yourself to Love

Release Yourself to Love

Hannah crossed her arms over her chest, as if in defiance to what He wanted her to do. Couldn’t He understand the pain she was going through? Didn’t He know how much she hurt?

“Lord, I love you but you’re asking a lot. I can’t. I just can’t.” Even as she said the words she knew she might be disappointing Him but then it wasn’t fair. Wasn’t He concerned about what she was facing? Why was He more concerned about the other fellow?

“Do you love me?” She heard Him say.

She almost sighed but held herself back from doing so. His question reminded her of the book of John, when Jesus kept asking Peter if he loved Him. Only You know, Lord. “Yes, I do Lord. You know I do.”

Then as if as a response, He brought to memory the scripture He led her to read that morning.

But I say to you, love your enemies. Pray for those who hurt you. If you do this, you will be true children of your Father in heaven. He causes the sun to rise on good people and on evil people, and he sends rain to those who do right and to those who do wrong. If you love only the people who love you, you will get no reward. Even the tax collectors do that.

She felt the tears build up at the back of her eyes. As soon as she knew a little of what God’s love was about she had been determined to love Him. She was keen on following His will. She wanted to love others as well just as He was teaching her how to love herself and Him as well.

There were some days she found it the easiest thing to do and other days she found herself struggling. Especially when difficult situations came her way and she wanted to lash out rather than respond in love.

Hannah heard Him speak to her again.

Release yourself . . . To me.

She frowned a little. “Release myself to You? Lord You already have all of me. What else is left?”

Somehow she could feel God smiling at her as He said, “Your will, emotions, your heart. Let me wrap my love around your heart. Surrender totally.”

“How do I love better Lord? How do I release myself to You? How?”

Are there times you have felt so determined to love God’s way? You are loving with ease when all seems well but when a problem arises that causes you pain . . . You just want to lash out, revenge, be angry, make your thoughts heard and do anything but love.

Love is the last thing on your mind.

I have been in that situation on different occasions. Was at that point yesterday as well. I was so angry that the thought of love and forgiving never crossed my mind while pouring out my grievances to my hubby (lol he’s not the one that vexed me o). And recently God has made me understand something about myself. About His love. I need to release myself to love. (Seriously there are so many things to learn about love).

I need not struggle with Him.

If He says forgive out of love. I should.

If He says give out of love. I should.

If He says be patient out of love. I should.

We know we have the love of God shed abroad in our hearts but how often do we make use of that love?

God is love. He guides us to love. But we need to release ourselves to Him. To do as He says at different situations. If we want to lash out we listen to Love that tells us to calm down.

Your flesh won’t want you to walk in love. Your flesh would tell you it’s stupid to forgive, afterall you were never at fault. Your flesh would tell you you’re weak. But God’s Spirit would tell you to walk in love. That the foolishness of God confounds the wise. That our weakness is His strength.

Loving is never easy at first. . . It takes continual practice before it gets better. God help us all.

Bible Quote for the Day:

Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us, for God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.
Romans 5:5 AMPC
